Everyday Essential Oils

Frances Fuller

There is a huge difference between oils that “smell good” and pure, premium essential oils. If the desired effect is not achieved when using essential oils, it is usually due to the fact that the oils are adulterated in some manner, whether by dilution, by improper distillation, or that the oil is a chemically created substitute.  Distillation is a very complex art and must be done at the optimum temperature and pressure for each particular plant.

Otherwise, many of the chemical components that should be present will be missing.  The oil may still smell the same, but it will not have the same effect.

What is the best way to utilize essential oils?

The English model suggests blending the essential oils with carrier oil and using in light touch full body massage.

The French model, which is the oldest and most widely used in the world today, employs the use of oils neat (undiluted) and taken internally.

NOTE:  You must be sure that your oils are pure and therapeautic in order to use them in this manner! Ingesting an essential oil to which solvent has been added could be extremely detrimental to overall health.

The German model calls for inhaling the aromas.  As the tiny molecules travel up the nose, they stimulate the amygdale which is the emotional center of the brain.

Which is the best way?  Why not use all three models???

What is the best way to apply them?

The places on the body where the oils will absorb the most rapidly are:

  • Bottoms of the feet
  • Rims of the ears
  • Around the navel
  • Inside of mouth

Undoubtedly, the safest place to apply oil is the bottoms of the feet!

FRANKINCENSE has particularly amazing anti-tumoral properties, and many have found it to be effective in preventing wrinkles.  In addition, it is very high in sesquiterpenes, which allow it to cross the blood-brain barrier.  When the tiny molecules are inhaled, they can oxygenate the cells of the brain directly as well as through the circulatory system.  The very high frequency of frankincense makes it a beautiful oil to apply for meditation.  In recent years a number of people have used frankincense effectively to reduce the pressure in the eyes related to glaucoma and to improve vision.

LAVENDER is considered the “universal oil”.  Its complex molecular structure has hundreds of chemical components, making it effective in bringing about balance and harmony to alleviate many different symptoms.  It is the most effective substance known for treating burns.  In addition, it can minimize bruising and stop bleeding from cuts, scrapes and other wounds.  It also has been shown to be effective against many types of tumors.

Because it is the most versatile of all essential oils, no home should be without it.

LEMON is between 54% and 72% limonene, which makes it highly anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-parasitic.  It can be used to purify water and for assisting the body in maintaining a neutral pH level.  It has been effective in dissolving kidney stones in many cases when taken internally.  It is cold-pressed from the rind rather than steam distilled as are all citrus oils.  Therefore, it is best to use citrus oils within two years.  Lemon essential oil is uplifting and energizing.

PEPPERMINT is highly anti-inflammatory, making it an excellent choice in the relief of pain.  It is particularly effective for headaches and for digestive upsets – or just to enhance digestion.  When applied to the bottoms of the feet, it will usually bring down a fever within minutes. Peppermint also has the ability to enhance the properties of other oils when it is layered on top, and it can often relieve blocked nasal passages and sinuses.

NOTE:  Peppermint is considered a “hot” oil, so care must be used when applying it.

PAN-AWAY is a blend of WINTERGREEN, HELICHRYSUM, CLOVE, and PEPPERMINT.  This blend promotes rapid healing as well as pain relief and has powerful anti-inflammatory properties.  Wintergreen contains 99% methyl salicylate , which gives it cortisone-like properties.  Helichrysum assists the body in regenerating healthy tissue.  Clove has the highest rating on the ORAC scale of any known substance – 10,078,700!!!

Containing wintergreen essential oil, which is often used for massage, PanAway is soothing to the skin while providing comforting warmth to muscles after exercise.

PEACE & CLAMING is a blend of TANGERINE, ORANGE, YLANG YLANG, PATCHOULY, and BLUE TANSY.  It has been shown to be effective for children with ADD and ADHD and for anxiety in both children and adults.  Many find that applying it on the bottoms of the feet and around the navel and diffusing it in the bedroom will bring very peaceful sleep.

When diffused, it helps calm tensions and uplift the spirit, promoting relaxation and a deep sense of peace. When massaged on the bottoms of the feet, it can be a wonderful prelude to a peaceful night’s rest.

PURIFICATION is a blend of CITRONELLA, LEMONGRASS, ROSEMARY CINEOL, MEMAMEUCA ALTERNIFOLIA, LAVENDIN, and MYRTLE.  It was originally created for eliminating odors and mold.  However, its greatest effect may be that it neutralizes poisons from insect bites, spiders, snakes, scorpions, and even Portuguese Man-of War!  It also repels most insects and can assist in eliminating airborne bacteria.

Can be used directly on the skin to cleanse and soothe insect bites, cuts, and scrapes.

THIEVES is a blend of CLOVE, LEMON, CINNAMON BARK, EUCALYPTUS RADIATA, and ROSEMARYOFFICIANALIS CT CINEOL.  It is our greatest defense against viruses and bacterial infections.  It was named for a group of 15th Century robbers who rubbed a blend of these oils on themselves and then stole from the sick and dying – and did not get sick!  Studies conducted at Weber State University in 1997 showed a 99.3% kill rate against the airborne microorganism, micrococcus luteus after diffusing for 20 minutes!

NOTE:  This blend contains two very “hot” oils, cinnamon and clove and must be used with care when applying topically.  The bottoms of the feet is the safest place to apply.

VALOR is a blend of ROSEWOOD, BLUE TANSY, FRANKINCENSE, and SPRUCE.  It is very balancing both physically and energetically and assists one in remaining grounded.  Valor has been called “Chiropractor in a Bottle” due to its ability to balance all the systems.  A number of chiropractors have reported that the adjustments are easier and the spinal alignments hold longer when Valor blend is applied prior to the treatment.

Valor works with both the physical and spiritual aspects of the body to increase feelings of strength, courage, and self-esteem in the face of adversity.

DIFFUSER: A diffuser is a special air pump designed to disperse essential oils in a micro-fine vapor into the atmosphere where they remain suspended for several hours. This results in a reduction of bacteria, viruses, fungus, and mold ands freshens the air with natural fragrances. Diffusing releases oxygenating molecules that contain anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-septic properties.
